endurance
this is what it takes
even with eyes and hearts open
countless lonely hours forming days into nights
no calls when we want just abrupt hang ups
there is no endless time only ticking clocks
we wait for priceless pieces of information

we miss you, cry for you, think of you
long to see you and hear your voice
but we have no rights
their actions control what happens
the knife slices deep with the word “our” excluding “us”
the people at home surrounding you

this is not a position easily choosen
but one of loving sacrifice
we know it flows both ways
we worry, is it enough
enough connection, enough trust, enough love
will we be strong enough

will our time ever come
will it damage us, make us bitter
will we disappoint each other
will we be open to the changes
will we live through the anxiety
and suffer through the doubts

we are not so different you and I
just trying to find our love, our joy, our passion again.
